The life of miners in 1850

Miners at work
The job of miner was for boys and girls, men and women, from 6 years old until they died.

The boys and girls were strong.

The job of miner was to dig the ground to find coal.

In their houses, miners slept and prepared dinner.

They walked to work.

They were taking canaries in the shaft to go down to the mine because canaries are sensitive to fumes and gases .

Miner with his canari bird
They went down the mine in a elevator to 100 metres underground.

The conditions of the job were abysmal because a miner could be killed by a collapse and by the fumes or gas .
